Urban Hiking Day 9: Jumping Edition

I have an immense love for Seattle and jumping pictures. A couple of my friends and I decided to combine those two loves into one amazing adventure. We tried to visit some of the most popular places around Seattle and take jumping pictures in front of them. This turned into a hilarious and perfect eight hour day, full of laughter, joy and lots and lots of pictures! Here is a peek into our glorious day.

Seattle is surprisingly big, so we didn't get to all of the places we wanted to, but I feel good about the places we were able to check off our list.

Recently I've discovered that I seem to be drawn to taking pictures of signage. I suppose that makes sense because anyone that knows me knows that I love to sit in the car and just read signs that I see on the road as we pass by. It is actually a very annoying habit for anyone that rides in the car with me. Ask Caitlin Mullins.... she would agree.

What better place to explore my new love for sign photography then Capitol Hill? That place is chalked full of random signs and graffiti that would be any sign lovers heaven. Perhaps this is something that only I think is cool, but just in case, here are a select few of the pictures I took on my latest urban hiking adventure....

Urban Hiking Day 5: Tacoma Glass Museum

I've always heard about the legendary Chihuly and his spectacular blown glass masterpieces, but I've never had the chance to witness his work first hand. This Urban Hiking post is dedicated to my adventure down to the heart of the Tacoma Aroma, and the amazing Glass Museum. If you've never had the chance to to go to the museum, I high recommend spending an afternoon in the glass blowing studio, watching the artist work first hand. It is some pretty incredible stuff. Be sure to also visit the Kids Corner Gallery and look for 'Picklebuck.' You'll know why when you see him. I won't spoil the glory that is 'Picklebuck.' You'll have to experience him first hand....

The (Mis)adventures of Sadie: Alter-what?

When I last left you, Sadie (my 1996 Subaru Legacy Outback) and I started our blooming relationship anew. After a disastrous roadside mishap (see earlier post), Sadie and I had reached a new amendment on our relationship. And for a beautiful two weeks, the new arrangement was playing out flawlessly; until one fateful winter evening.....

It was a cold and blistery Wednesday night. I was speed walking home from work. See, I had promised my roommate to sub on her flag football team. Never passing up an opportunity to be competitive and display my crazy mad football skills, I was very eager to get to the game.

I flew through the door, rushing upstairs to change into warmer clothes, grabbing every sweatshirt I had in site. I ran back down the stairs, arms loaded and fully prepared for an awesome night of flag football. I hopped into Sadie, my mind already focused on the vigorous game that laid in front of me.

Now, at this point in our newly defined relationship, I assumed Sadie would hold up her end of the agreement. She had plenty of gas, and thanks to our last (mis)adventure, a brand new battery. All she had to do was get me from point A to point B. Sounds like a fool proof plan, right?

Difficult Good-byes

Ten weeks….

Ten weeks. That is it. That is the number of weeks I have left in Seattle until I start my next adventure. I am overwhelmed with so many emotions right now: excitement, fear, joy, and uncertainty. I can’t even fully describe how I am feeling. Is there a word for every emotion in the world? Because that is what I feel whenever I stop and think about what lies just ten weeks down the road for me.

Ten weeks is just long enough for nothing to be completely tangible, however, just short enough for me to feel like I don’t have enough time. There are so many things I want to do. There are so many people I want to see; so many memories that I want to form, but haven’t been formed yet.

The (Mis)adventures of Sadie: Car Trouble Blues

I've had Sadie, my 1996 Subaru Legacy Outback, for three years now. The majority of the time we get along great. I feed her gas when she requires it, and in return she gets me from point A to point B. Only a handful of times have we really ever disagreed with each other.

About a week ago, I was a little worried we might have one of our famous fights. She had to get an emissions test done, and she had recently been acting up. I wasn't sure she was going to pass the test. On the big day, I took her for a fifteen minute joy drive on I-5, to make sure she was in a good mood for the test. While I was biting my nails in anticipation as to whether or not she was going to pass, she calmly did everything she was asked to do, and passed with flying colors. I couldn't have been more thrilled. This meant another year of our beautiful relationship. All was right with the world.

Apparently Sadie thought differently...

Urban Hiking: A Look into the Streets of Seattle

I have found myself, recently, having a lot of free time on my hands. I've driven myself mad from boredom. There is only so many times you can clean your room, or read Harry Potter before one begins to lose their mind.

In an effort to relieve myself from insanity, I've decided to do some urban hiking around Seattle. It's amazing how easily it is to walk around the city (provided you have endless hours in the day to wander aimlessly through the streets). I wanted to document my adventures somehow, and decided there is no better way to display said adventures then through the wonderful world of photography.

As you may, or may not know, I'm shipping out to the Peace Corps. When? I couldn't tell you. Where? Who knows. But I can reassure you it will happen.

I did have a minor set back today, and realized I was way more invested in this program then I previously thought. I came to this small epiphany as tears were blurring my eyes at the prospect of being in Seattle longer than I previously thought.

Trampoline

I recently started reading Velvet Elvis by Rob Bell.

He often has one sentence paragraphs.

I think I am going to start writing like that.

It is more entertaining for all of us.

Haha, but seriously. He brought up a very interesting point, that only Rob Bell could make this connection. He said that the Christian faith is like a trampoline. I know, a trampoline, right? But one of the things he said that really got me thinking is that we are not supposed to defend the trampoline, we are supposed to invite people in to jump with us.

Dang. What a powerful statement. God doesn't want us to show and defend to the world our faith, he wants us to invite others in and jump with us. He wants us to invite others into this journey that we are on. Never does he want us to but up a brick wall and say that we are better then the other people on the other side of the wall. He wants us to open and loving to those around us, and invite them into our lives.

This is a really good place for me to come as I enter into this internship. It makes it much easier for me to think about how I am going to meet all these new people. Never do I have to get in front of someone and defend my self to them. God wants me to invite them into my life. Invite them to come jump with me. And from that other conversations and life joys will flow.

So come and jump with me. I want to share my life with you. And I hope that you will share your life with me.
